English In Use - 'Eau Dear!'

A selection of headlines from stories in the news. They use English in a way that you might think is intended to confuse but it's all perfectly clear to the native speaker.

'Oh dear' is a typical British expression of surprise and it has been adapted by the headline writers at the Daily Mail on a story that beauty giants Elizabeth Arden have seen a 28 per cent drop in revenue because of a decline in sales of celebrity perfumes. They used the word "Eau" from 'Eau de parfum/toilette' as their inspiration for 'Eau Dear!'
