Russia is to set up a 24 hour English language news channel

Russia has begun setting up a 24-hour English-language news network, the Russian news and information agency RIA Novosti announced today.

No launch date has been given for Russia Today, which will be available in Russia, the CIS and across Europe, as well as in the U.S. and certain Asian markets. It aims to “reflect Russia's position on key issues in world affairs, and inform the foreign audience about the variety of aspects of life in Russia", a press release from RIA Novosti said.

The channel’s editorial policy will be overseen by a council consisting of Russian and international public figures, journalists, artists, scientists and businessmen.
