German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle, who found himself being mocked when he refused to speak English at his first press conference after being elected, has launched a campaign called "German, the language of ideas". Seemingly lots of people are fed up of the encroachment of English into everyday life.
Of course this might cause a backlash in the UK, with dictionaries deleting such gems as rucksack, doppelgänger, fahrenheit, diesel, delicatessen etc. etc. etc.
No! We should keep them! They are lovely words. I'm sure there are some English words that sound nice to the German ear?
xx
I think they're still a bit peeved that America rejected German as the main language.
