English In Use - 'They Think It's All Odour'

A selection of headlines from stories in the news. They use English in a way that you might think is intended to confuse but it's all perfectly clear to the native speaker.

English football fans will easily understand the Daily Mail headline of 'They Think It's All Odour' on a story that the England World Cup squad will be based in a hotel that has an open sewer flowing past it for next year's World Cup in Brazil.

The headline is a play on 'They Think It's All Over',an iconic phrase used by BBC TV commentator Kenneth Wolstenholme in the closing moments of England's World Cup extra time win over Germany in the 1966 World Cup Final. Here 'odour' (smell) replaces 'over'.
