Being an amateur when it comes to canal boats, it took more than a little courage to steer ours on to a 1,007ft (305 metre) long aqueduct, towering 126ft (39 metres) above a Welsh valley. The water channel was barely wider than our vessel and as I gripped the tiller tightly I noticed there was not even a railing between me and the sheer drop to the River Dee below. Imagine my horror when my daughter calmly called out: “It says in the guide book that the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct is nearly 200 years old and the masonry piers are hollow towards the top!”

Logos are emblems that sit proudly on your business cards, website, and even your grannie's fridge. You might think it’s just a fancy doodle, but let me assure you, it’s so much more than that! In fact, if logos were people, they’d be the life of the party—charming, memorable, and always ready to make a good impression. So why is it that some entrepreneurs still treat their logos like an afterthought? Perhaps they think they can just slap their name on a piece of clipart and call it a day. Spoiler alert: they can’t!

I am often annoyed with or by Facebook, but I am really annoyed this morning.

A correspondent of mine recently had this to say: I'm appalled at the increasing use of less when fewer would be more appropriate. I was taught that if you could count them (people at a meeting) you used "fewer"; if you couldn't count it (sugar) you used "less."

It seems that the trend is to use less for everything. ... I can't wrap myself around using "less" when "fewer" seems so right to me. She asked me to comment.

The traditional rule is indeed to use "fewer" with things that can be counted.

A logo (from the Greek λογότυπος = logotipos) is a graphic element, symbol, or icon of a trademark or brand.

A unique logo is often necessary to avoid confusion in the marketplace among clients, suppliers, users, affiliates, and the general public. Once a logo is designed, one of the most effective means for protecting it is through registration as a trademark, so that no unauthorised third parties can use it, or interfere with the owner's use of it.
