I am a bit of a fan of fests in Germany, much to my husband's annoyance. And it's like a bus, you wait for hours and then two come along at once. This weekend Griesheim was the host to the annual Zwiebelfest (onion festival) and Arheilgen had their annual Gewerberverein Fest (local trader's festival). This meant that we were spoilt for choice as to where to spend our time and money.
Well there are two days in a weekend, so no problems there! Saturday and we set off to the Arheilgen Gewerbeverein Fest. The high street was shut to traffic, I love Germany, and all the local businesses and clubs had a stand to display their wares and services. My favourite stand was definitely the öko wine stand.
I was a bit wary of the Zwiebelfest. Having been to the Bienenfest in Michelstadt - no bees and the Fischfest in Mespelbrunn - no fish. I wasn't sure what I would find at the Onion festival in Griesheim. Imagine my delight at finding Zwiebelkuchen, Pots that look like onions and various other oniony things going on! Of course I ate Cevapcici, but there were some onions on the side!
