Now, I am not going t0 name and shame like some blogs do - I know, boring, boring. But, suffice to say that somewhere in Germany there is an American style bar. After a hefty evening's Christmas shopping my husband and I were in need of some sustenance. We both fancied a burger and being anti large chain went to a local bar.
I am not a big meat eater and so I was delighted to see vege-burgers on the menu, not only that but they came with coleslaw and chips! Excellent thought I, and sat back in eager anticipation.
When the meals came they looked great and I tucked in with relish! Now, you must understand that I try to keep my table manners at a reasonable level, so instead of grasping said burger in both hands I cut a piece off and was delighted to receive a mouthful of sesame bun with delicious roasted vegetables - hmmm. The next forkful though was exactly the same! Strange thought I??? After the third such forkful I decided to investigate further. Lifting the top of the burger with my knife I proceeded to rootle around with my fork.
"What are you doing?," asked my husband. "I'm looking for my burger." I replied, frantically.
Did I find it? Nope! Seemingly this was a bap / bun (for the US fraternity) filled with roasted vegetables. So, vegetarians be warned, it would be called a roasted veggy bap or sandwich in the UK, but it is what seems to pass for a vege-burger in Germany.
