As many of you know I love music - all kinds of music. Living in Germany can be a bit frustrating though, unless you are interested in watching old rockers try to revive their careers or listen to cover bands try to get a career. In fact they even have a name for cover band music - "Cover Rock". Eventually though it's like waiting for a bus and three bands come along at once.
This week was one such example. The Arctic Monkeys came to play at the Alte Feuerwache in Mannheim, supported by a band called Milford, and the Wedding Present played the Cooky Club in Frankfurt, supported by the excellent band Decoration. We were very lucky to get tickets to the first gig as it was sold out and very lucky to get tickets to the second gig, which although it wasn't sold out was brilliant. The AMs were good too, in fact it was the liveliest gig I have ever been to in Germany, although some of the moshers need to learn not to try to go to the loos in the middle of the set. But, the sheer maturity of the Wedding Present shone through and they get my vote. What was even better is the club they played had seats!
However two late nights and four excellent bands means I am very bleary eyed and have a sore back and knees. Maybe my body is trying to tell me to stop bopping like a teenager.
