The Historian

by Elizabeth Kostova

Vampires prowling around dark forests and damp crypts in Central Europe, but without the usual gore, perfect for the month of Halloween.   But this book is a bit more seminal than your usual vampire novel.  Basically a young American girl living with her father in Europe comes across evidence that Vlad the Impaler – the real Dracula still exists. and may be hunting them.  The book relates the search for the tomb of the medieval Wallachian (not Transylvanian!) tyrant Vlad Tepes (the real-life Dracula), by a handful of historians who become convinced he is still alive — or, should I say, undead.  It all adds up to an exciting thriller.
