A selection of headlines from stories in the news.  They use English in a way that you might think is intended to confuse, but it’s all perfectly clear to the native speaker.

Strip Teas II is a headline in The Sun newspaper.  It is about the women from Rylstone Women’s Institute in the Yorkshire Dales who are to pose for a nude calendar, 10 years after their 1999 version raised £2 million for Cancer Research.

The story of the original calendar was turned into a hit film called ‘Calendar Girls’ starring Helen Mirren and Julie Walters. The Women’s Institute are usually better known for their cream teas and the headline plays on  this, strip  teas is a play on the word striptease (a form of entertainment in which a performer, usually a woman, takes off their clothes in a way which is sexually exciting to the people who are watching).
