A selection of headlines from stories in the news.  They use English in a way that you might think is intended to confuse, but it’s all perfectly clear to the native speaker.

Stroof, Andy! is a headline in the Sun newspaper about tennis star Andy Murray’s quarter-final match at Wimbledon. The latter part of the game was played under Wimbledon’s new £80 million retractable roof and finished at 22.38 BST under floodlights, the latest ever finish in a Wimbledon tournament. The word ‘Stroof’ is a play on ‘Strewth’ which is a slang word used to express surprise.
