Every month I choose a photograph from Flickr to appear here. Hopefully something interesting and informative.
This month’s photo is from me. It’s an older photo called “Hearts and Flowers”. It was taken along a canal in France.
The caption on the photo reads, “I wanted something for the English magazine for Valentine’s Day. And then I remembered this photo of hearts and flowers. How appropriate.”
I called it “Hearts and Flowers” because politicians and generals often talk about capturing people’s “hearts and minds”, a phrase used by the US military in the Vietnam war and by Harold MacMillan in relation to the Communist insurgency in Malaysia. There was even a BBC program called Hearts and Minds which covered the latest issues in the politics of Northern Ireland.
Maybe if they concentrated more on hearts and flowers, the world would be a better place.
