English in Use - 'Between A Doc And A Hard Place'

A selection of headlines from stories in the news. They use English in a way that you might think is intended to confuse but it's all perfectly clear to the native speaker.

The sub-editors on the Sun newspaper clearly enjoyed themselves with the headline of 'Between A Doc And A Hard Place' which refers to a story about surgeons saving a man's life after a three week erection nearly killed him! The 55 year old in Kolkata, India, was suffering from a condition called priapism, triggered by a nervous system disorder, which prevents blood from draining out of the penis.

The headline is a play on the phrase 'between a rock and a hard place' which is an idiom used to explain a choice between two unsatisfactory options!
