Every month I choose a photograph from Flickr to appear here. Hopefully something interesting and informative or just plain silly.
This month’s photo is from me. It’s called “Pilloried” and was taken outside a pub in Germany.
The caption on the photo reads, “To pillory someone means to expose them to ridicule or public scorn. In days gone by people were physically punished for minor offences by being put in a pillory, aka stocks, a wooden construction on a post with holes for the wrists and neck; offenders were locked into them. I don’t know who these guys are, but they were having fun, well one of them was. :)”
It’s a photo of a pillory that is purely for decorative purposes and fun, no one is actually punished like that here any more.
