A selection of headlines from stories in the news that you might think is intended to confuse but it’s all perfectly clear to the native speaker.

Oh what a lovely headline!  The Sun’s ‘Blotto’d Lotto Clotto’s Car Ban’ relates to a story about Michael Carroll, the man who squandered a £9.7 million lottery win, receiving a four month suspended jail sentence and a three year driving ban and being ordered to do 120 hours unpaid community work, after being found guilty of a drink driving offence in King’s Lynn, Norfolk. ‘Blotto’ is slang for being drunk, and ‘Clotto’ is a play on ‘Clot’ as in idiot and ‘Lotto’ short for lottery.
