Great choice of quote Alex

peter out -  Alex used this phrasal verb, from one of my favourite quotes, in Wednesday's session.  In the context of the quote it means, to dwindle / tail off / diminish to nothing.  It can also mean to end weakly.  Someone wrote a review of the film Benjamin Button:  "The ending was a bit lacking for me, I assumed something clever would happen, but the film just petered out."  I'd have to agree with them.
