English In Use - 'Blind As A Blatt'

A selection of headlines from stories in the news. They use English in a way that you might think is intended to confuse but it's all perfectly clear to the native speaker.

The Sun was amongst many English newspapers pouring scorn last week on FIFA chief Sepp Blatter who sparked an outcry by suggesting that there was no racism in football but that if there was, the players should sort it out with a handshake.

Their headline of 'Blind As A Blatt' was a play on the popular idiom 'blind as a bat' which can mean being 'unwilling to recognize problems or bad things'.
