English In Use - 'Vats More Like It George Osborne'

A selection of headlines from stories in the news. They use English in a way that you might think is intended to confuse but it's all perfectly clear to the native speaker.

'Vats More Like It George Osborne' is the Daily Star headline on a story that a charity song by The Military Wives choir received a boost when Chancellor George Osborne decided to waive VAT on sales which could earn the song an extra £1 million. Proceeds are to go to the Royal British Legion.

The headline substitutes 'Vats' for 'That's'.  VAT stands for value added tax, which is what we call sales tax in the UK.
