English In Use - 'Wet Us Pray'

A selection from stories in the news. The use English in a way that you might think is intended to confuse but it's all perfectly clear to the native speaker.

With miserable Brits up to their armpits in a wet summer, The Sun tried to cheer everyone up with its headline of 'Wet Us Pray' on a story that Canon David Meara of St Bride's Church in London's Fleet Street is to compose a special prayer to try and 'fix' the weather. God bless him.

The headline is a play on the phrase "Let us pray", which is what vicars say in church services before prayers.
