English In Use - 'Bride And Prejudice'

A selection of headlines from stories in the news. They use English in a way that you might think is intended to confuse but it's all perfectly clear to the native speaker.

The Daily Mirror used a literary great to help with their headline on a story that Michele Connolly, a wedding planner at five star Stoke Park Hotel near Windsor, wrote an email to her boss saying that a couple wanting to book the venue  were 'not the the type of person we would want'.  Unfortunately she forwarded the mail to the bride-to-be by mistake! The headline of 'Bride And Prejudice' was a play on the classic 1813 Jane Austen novel 'Pride And Prejudice.'
