English In Use - 'Scrooge You'

A selection of headlines from stories in the news. They use English in a way that you might think is intended to confuse but it's all perfectly clear to the native speaker.

The Sun indulged in a touch of seasonal swearing with their headline of 'Scrooge You' on a story that workers at discount store Poundland have slammed their bosses over a 10 per cent store discount Christmas bonus. The headline is a play on Ebenezer Scrooge, the miserly character in Charles Dickens' novel A Christmas Carol.

We will leave it to your imagination regarding the play on words.
