English In Use - 'Whiff You Were Here'

A selection of headlines from stories in the news. They use English in a way that you might think is intended to confuse but it's all perfectly clear to the native speaker.

According to the Daily Mirror, Britain's first scratch and sniff guide has been launched in York. The tour guide book contains odours of popular tourist sites such as the National Railway Museum, York Minster Library and the birthplace of Guy Fawkes.

The newspaper's headline of 'Whiff You Were Here' substitutes 'whiff' as in smell for 'wish'.  People often write "Wish you were here," on postcards.
