English In Use - 'Sup North'

A selection of headlines from stories in the news. They use English in a way that you might think is intended to confuse but it's all perfectly clear to the native speaker.

'Up North' is a term used mainly by Southerners to describe the north of England. It has been adapted by the Daily Star for their headline of 'Sup North' on a story that Blackpool in Lancashire tops a list for the highest number of deaths from liver disease, which can be caused by drinking too much alcohol. Here, 'sup' as in supping a drink, is incorporated into the headline.

!Note - 'sup can also be short for "What's up".
