IT'S going to be party time in London next year, says the Daily Mail, when The Mall will see 10,000 people celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday.

The street party will see people treated to a 'classic British hamper lunch' to mark the Queen's lifelong patronage of more than 600 charities and national organisations, Buckingham Palace has announced.

The Patron’s Lunch event, which is being organised by her grandson, Peter Phillips, will take place in June.

How about this for a weird statistic – a survey by TravelSupermarket, reported in the Daily Mirror, revealed that almost half of Britons take a thick woolly jumper on their foreign summer holidays - despite flying to sizzling 35'C destinations.

Even more surprising is that 18 per cent of Brits like to tuck into a full English fry-up while on the continent.

And what about this for a depressing item - a fifth of those quizzed like to down a beer at the airport bar before flying - whatever time of day it is!

Blue is definitely the colour – when it comes to our cars. A survey by AA cars showed that blue has overtaken silver as the most popular colour.

A Daily Mirror article quotes the report as saying: “The higher the social status the more likely the driver was to own a silver car although the true blues were more represented by C1 social class (lower middle class).”

It goes on: “Despite blue being the most popular choice overall, the actual percentage selecting blue fell. Silver was the biggest faller down from 29% in 2013 to 19% in 2015.

“Silver was most popular during the recession possibly as people wanted to feel prosperous by showing off a precious metal colour. The proportion selecting white and red also rose significantly in the last two years.”

The report also showed that drivers over the age of 65 were twice as likely to go for beige.

What a clanger...the renowned British public school Eton College, which was attended by the Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry, has apologised for an error which meant that hundreds of applicants were falsely informed that they had secured a place.

The Daily Mirror says a computer glitch meant an email intended for nine families, including a conditional offer for their sons to join the September 2017 intake, was sent to 400 recipients.

An Eton College spokesman said: “This error was discovered within minutes and each family was immediately contacted to notify them that it should be disregarded and to apologise. We deeply regret the confusion and upset this must have caused.”

A shopping boom has been created in a Welsh town – by thieves!

The Daily Express explained that after the villains smashed up all the parking meters in Cardigan, local stores made record profits.

The council has been struggling to find £22,500 needed to repair the four pay-and-display machines in the town's main car park and there has been a rush of shoppers enjoying hours of free parking.

Café owner Jane Roche said: “The town is much busier, with customers saying that it is really nice not to have to rush back to their cars.”

However the council has said that it is committed to getting the machines working as soon as possible.
