English In Use - Cod Almighty'

A selection of headlines from stories in the news. They use English in  a way that you might think is intended to confuse but it's all perfectly clear to the native speaker.

God almighty is a phrase often used to express disbelief, and the Daily Star converted that to 'Cod Almighty' for the headline on a story that Adam Moran accepted a challenge from fish and chip shop owners John Haggerton and Suzanne Grayshon  in Ossett, Yorkshire,  to devour 'The Whale' - a meal of 32oz of fish, mountain of chips and sides in 12 minutes.  Cod, of course, is a type of fish.
