English In Use - Mars Barred

A selection of headlines from stories in the news. They use English in a way that you might think is intended to confuse but it's all perfectly clear to the native speaker.

A bit of a blow for lovers of chocolate bars is heralded by the Daily Mirror with their headline, "Mars Barred", on a story that millions of Mars (and Milky Way) chocolate bars have been recalled amid a plastic contamination fear.  They have used the term "Mars Bar" and swapped "Bar" for "Barred" from the verb "to bar", which can mean to prevent or prohibit (someone) from doing something or from going somewhere.
