English In Use - 'Ice Wallies'

A selection of headlines from stories in the news. They use English in a way that you might think it intended to confuse but it's all perfectly clear to the native speaker.

England's dramatic European football championship defeat to minnows Iceland provided a flood of scorn from the headline writers included The Sun's 'Ice Wallies'. Wally is a another word for a stupid person, and was used instead of lolly.  An ice lolly is a frozen fruit or fruit flavoured juice on a stick.
