According to "The Hill" during the 17th century in the Netherlands, as Tulip Mania reached fever pitch, someone was willing to exchange “4,600 florins, a new carriage, two grey horses, and a complete suit of harness” for a single Semper Augustus tulip bulb — known in slang of the time as an NFT, or non-fungible tulip. A single bulb of another tulip, the viceroy tulip, could be exchanged for four fat oxen, eight fat swine, 12 fat sheep, or 1,000 pounds of cheese.
