THE Independent carries a story claiming that the managers of the centuries-old Minchinhampton and Rodborough Commons near Stroud in Gloucestershire are considering daubing reflective paint on the 500 cattle grazing there to make them glow in the beam of approaching headlights!

The article says that motorists would see not a whole cow, but just an “alien glow” where the paint was which would persuade them to slow down and avoid hitting the animal.

THEY were one of best comedy double acts of all time and now the cross-Atlantic connection between Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy is to be celebrated, reports the Daily Mirror .

The two men grew up 4,000 miles apart, Oliver from Harlem, Georgia in the United States and Laurel in Ulverston, Cumbria in the north of England.

A Daily Mail article says that a rare copy of the first ever Beano comic published almost 80 years ago has sold for a world record £17,300.

It cost two pence when it was first published on July 30, 1938, and featured the first ever examples of some of its most iconic characters including the ostrich Big Eggo and Lord Snooty and His Pals.

The Daily Mail reports that Cathy Price has spent almost five years and nearly £16,000 in tracking down the 656 venues that share the UK's most common pub name.
